Ephesians 4:14-15 “14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—”
Ephesus was the chief city of the west coast of Asia Minor and Paul was starting new churches throughout the area. This letter was probably distributed to each of those churches as part of Paul’s guide toward standardization within the Christian churches. His strong emphasis was on presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ as a replacement for the many skewed ideologies represented by a mixture of people from a myriad of places. There were Jews, Judaizers, atheists and various idol worshippers all in contention with the Christians.
What We Should Know
We face the same contentious ideologies today and our faith is challenged from every direction. While we do not have to fear for our lives as those did in Paul’s day, we do face being ostracized by families or other groups who deny Christ. We should know by now that the single most important thing we must do is hold on to the basic truths of our Christian faith. The moment we don’t, the truth goes away. We can’t let that happen.
