Luke 2:17-18 “17. When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18. And all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”
In the majority of Bible stories of communications between humans and angels, they are one-on-one between one angel and one person. For example, an angel came to Peter in prison and freed him without anyone (including his guards) being aware of it. During Paul’s journey to Rome during a terrible storm on the ocean, an angel came to him and delivered God’s message of salvation. An angel came to Mary and informed her that she would be the mother of Jesus. An angel came to Joseph and informed him that Mary would be the mother of the Messiah. An angel came to Elizabeth and informed her that she would be the mother of John the Baptist.
What We Should Know
When Jesus was born, an angel, along with a host of heavenly beings, came to shepherds in the field and announced to them all of the birth of the Messiah. We aren’t told how many shepherds were present, but they all heard and saw the host of heavenly celebrants. I’m sure they all looked at one another and said something like “did you see and hear what I did?” They confirmed what they saw and heard was real and they followed up and confirmed it and then…. they witnessed to the world. Let us do the same.
