Phil 2:24 “But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come shortly.” 

This verse is “sandwiched” between Paul’s introductions of Timothy (vss.19-20) and Epaphroditus (vs.25). Paul is in a Roman prison and writing this letter to the church at Phillipi. He was arrested shortly after starting the church there and is concerned for their well-being through loving and caring leadership.  

What We Should Know 

Paul, who is in prison, has had to leave the church in the capable hands of Epaphroditus for the time being, a task which is a strain on Epaphroditus between ministering there and Paul in a Roman jail. The strain became life-threatening to Epaphroditus as his health failed along with the tremendous stress. Paul is grooming young Timothy to take over. We will hear a lot more about Timothy in Paul’s future writings.
