Pastor’s Note
“Faithful in the Ordinary”
Philippians 2:19-30
This Sunday, we will continue our study through Philippians by looking at Philippians 2:19–30 in a sermon titled, “Faithful in the Ordinary.” When we think about people God uses to change the world, we often think of the extraordinary: the gifted preacher, the missionary, the well-known leader. Yet in this passage, Paul highlights two ordinary believers, Timothy and Epaphroditus, whose faithful service helped advance the Gospel in powerful ways. Their lives remind us that God has always worked through ordinary men and women who are willing to pour their lives into others.
Disciple-making is not extraordinary work reserved for a select few. It is the ordinary calling of every faithful Christian. Whether through encouragement, hospitality, teaching, prayer, serving, or simply walking alongside someone in their faith, God uses everyday acts of faithfulness to build His Church and spread the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
My prayer is that this passage will challenge and encourage us to move beyond a private faith and embrace the calling to invest spiritually in others. You do not have to be famous, exceptionally gifted, or have all the answers to be used by God. You simply need to be willing and faithful.
I look forward to worshiping with you this Sunday as we consider what it means to be faithful in the ordinary.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Margaret
