Pastor’s Note
Awakened Through Scripture
Psalm 1 opens the book of Psalms by showing us a picture of the life God desires for His people: a life deeply rooted in His Word. The psalmist tells us that those who are blessed do not follow the counsel of the wicked or drift into patterns that pull them away from God, but instead they delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night. This is more than simply reading Scripture; it is allowing God’s Word to shape our hearts, our decisions, and our direction.
The discipline of Scripture invites us into a daily relationship with God through His Word. When we regularly spend time in the Bible, we begin to recognize God’s voice more clearly, grow in wisdom, and find encouragement for every season of life. God uses His Word to correct us when we wander, comfort us when we are weary, and strengthen us when we feel weak.
Psalm 1 compares the person who delights in God’s Word to a tree planted by streams of water: steady, nourished, and fruitful. In the same way, a life grounded in Scripture is not easily shaken by circumstances. Instead, it continues to grow, bear fruit, and reflect God’s goodness to others.
My prayer for each of us is that we would move beyond occasional Bible reading and develop a daily habit of delighting in God’s Word. As we do, may we discover the joy, strength, and spiritual vitality that come from being firmly rooted in Him.
