Pastor’s Note
Psalm 46
Our Refuge and Strength
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — Psalm 46:1
Life has a way of reminding us just how little is actually within our control. Circumstances change. Plans unravel. The ground beneath us can suddenly feel uncertain. Psalm 46 does not pretend that these realities do not exist. In fact, it describes a world in turmoil: mountains shaking, waters roaring, and nations raging. Yet, in the midst of it all, the psalmist makes a remarkable declaration: “Therefore we will not fear.”
Why? Not because everything will turn out exactly as we planned. Not because God's people are protected from hardship. We need not fear because God is with us.
At the heart of Psalm 46 is an invitation many of us desperately need to hear: “Be still, and know that I am God.” These words call us to release our grip, quiet our anxious hearts, and remember who is ultimately in control.
Whatever you are carrying today, may Psalm 46 remind you that you do not face it alone. The same God who has been our refuge in generations past remains our refuge today. When the world feels uncertain and the ground beneath us seems to shake, God remains steadfast.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Margaret
