Marked By Grace
Pastor’s Note
This Sunday, we begin a brand-new sermon series titled Philippians: To Live Is Christ. Over the coming weeks, we will walk together through this joyful and deeply encouraging letter, discovering what it means to find our identity, purpose, and hope completely in the Resurrected Jesus Christ. Written from prison, Paul’s words remind us that true joy is not found in temporary circumstances, but in a life surrendered to Christ.
As we begin this journey, we turn to the opening words, the Greeting, found in Philippians 1:1–2. Though brief, these verses invite us into the remarkable story of a man whose life was completely transformed by the grace of God. Paul’s story is one of the clearest examples in all of the Bible that no one is beyond the reach of God’s mercy. Once known as Saul, he was a fierce opponent of the church, determined to silence the name of Jesus. Yet on the road to Damascus, Jesus met him, changed him, and gave him a new purpose and life. The man who once persecuted believers became one of the boldest witnesses for Christ the world has ever known.
That same grace led Paul on his missionary journeys, including his arrival in Philippi. There, God opened doors in unexpected ways. Lydia came to faith by the riverside. A slave girl was set free. A jailer and his household were baptized after an earthquake shook the prison walls. Again and again, we see that where grace is at work, lives are changed, hearts are opened, and hope is born.
When Paul writes to the Philippians, he does not write as a man proud of his accomplishments, but as a servant of Christ Jesus. He knows that everything he is and everything he has comes from the grace of God. His life reminds us that grace does not simply forgive our past, but it also reshapes our future.
I hope you will join us this Sunday as we reflect on Paul’s life, God’s work in Philippi, and what it means for each of us to live as people marked by grace. The same God who transformed Paul is still at work in us today!
