John 24:31 “Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight.

Two men who were walking on the road to Emmaus were joined by a third individual who didn’t identify himself. They shared their thoughts on the events of the crucifixion and their disappointment, for they had hoped that he would be the prophet they had hoped for who would redeem Israel. But, as fate would have it, they killed him. They further shared the story going around that some of the women went to the tomb on the third day and it was empty. They said they had seen angels who told them he was alive. This stranger (Jesus) chastised the men for being slow to believe and He commenced to explain to them, beginning with Moses and all the prophets, what the Scriptures said concerning His coming.

What We Should Know

The two men did not recognize who this stranger was until they broke bread together at dinner and He gave thanks. Then, He immediately disappeared from their sight. There is an old saying “God works in strange ways.” This was certainly an example of that. We don’t know what became of those two men after that event, but they certainly had all the evidence they needed to convince them that they had met the resurrected Jesus who was so much more than just a prophet.

Have you ever had an “Aha” when coming across a key Scripture at just the right time or when answers came to you   through a sermon or a Bible study? The answers to all of our Scriptural dilemmas are there. Give them a chance.
