Mark 10:45 “For  even the Son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

James and John were concerned about who would take over leadership when Jesus leaves. They went to Jesus and asked if they could be designated as co-leaders in His place. All of the other disciples were upset with James and John and Jesus called a meeting where He explained that leadership must be prequalified by servantship.

What We Should Know

Leadership is a quality which comes from earned respect and acceptance; not by mere favoritism. Jesus pointed that out to all of the disciples. The path to leading comes through serving. He reminded all that His leadership came through serving sacrificially even to the point of giving His life and that any future leadership would succeed only if they follow His example. Our church has done that for one hundred  years and the years to follow should be no different. Let us celebrate and lead our church into a new year together. We are all leaders in the faith.
