A Word from Pastor Stephen – April 27, 2020

I’ve been carrying you on my back from the day you were born,
And I’ll keep on carrying you when you’re old.
I’ll be there, bearing you when you’re old and gray.
I’ve done it and will keep on doing it,
carrying you on my back, saving you. (Isaiah 46:4 The Message)

When we were infants and young children our parents and family cared for us, loved us, nurtured us, and showed concern of our basic needs. As we grew older we began to take on more of the responsibility of caring for our own needs. As adults we tend to feel a burden not only to care of ourselves, but to be attuned to the needs of our family, our work and so many other obligations. It sure can feel like you are caring the weight of the world on your shoulders all by yourself.

If we take the time to read the Bible and let its message sink in, we will begin to learn that we have never been alone. This verse from Isaiah is a wonderful reminder that we have been cared for and loved by God since the day we were born. It is a love that never grows weary. It is a love that never gives up. It is a love that never withdraws itself. It is a love that never sleeps or takes time off. It is a love that is ever present and covers us completely.

This love has been with us since the day we were born and will still be with us when we are old and gray and take our last breath. If we truly let that sink into our hearts and minds, then all the fear, worry, anxiety and doubt that can so easily consume us will be washed away. Try to live with that blessed assurance every day. Remember what Jesus told us. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Mt. 11:28-30 NIV) Amen.
