The Joy of Giving
2 Corinthians 9:6-12
This Sunday we are taking a few weeks break from our study on Acts and beginning a new sermon series called “The Generous Church.” Over the next three weeks, we’ll discover together that generosity is more than what we do with our wallets; it is a way of life. It shapes how we treat one another, how we see the world, and how we recognize the blessings God has placed in our lives.
Our first message, “The Joy of Giving,” is based on 2 Corinthians 9:6–12. In this passage, Paul offers us two important guardrails for generosity. First, he reminds us that in the Christian life, generosity is the assumption, not the exception. Followers of Jesus are called to live with a spirit of abundance, ready to share what God has entrusted to us. Second, he teaches us that giving must always be cheerful, not begrudging. True generosity is never about duty alone, but about delight in the God who has given us everything.
The main point of the message is simple yet powerful: generosity is not a burden but a blessing. When we give cheerfully, we don’t lose, we gain. We gain joy in God, we grow deeper in our discipleship, and we take a giant leap forward in the life of faith.
I pray you will join us on this journey of discovering what it truly means to be “The Generous Church.”
In Christ’s love,
Pastor Margaret
