Acts 17: 20 “ You are bringing some strange ideas to our ears, and we would like to know what they mean.”

Paul was waiting at Athens to meet Silas and Timothy. He noticed the city was full of idols and the population was a mix of God-Fearing Greeks and Jews so he started talking to people and sharing the story of Jesus. A group of Epicureans and Stoic philosophers began to debate him and brought him to a meeting of the Areopagus where they challenged his teaching. 

What We Should Know

The Areopagus is a hill in Athens where the council holds their official meetings. They invited Paul to share his teaching with them there. Paul gave an eloquent speech where he introduced to them the “Unknown God” whom they worshipped. We are surrounded today by leaders who declare allegiance to “gods” who rule their hearts and lives. We must be very careful who we follow and take a stand for our Christian values in all walks of life. Jesus will always be there for us. Earthly leaders will not.
