Acts 8:9-11 “9. Now for some time, a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, ‘This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.’ 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery.
This Scripture reminds me of a tele-evangelist who used to be on television every week who had the attention of literally millions of viewers who faithfully witnessed his show and listened to his theology without question as he asked for their money to fund his show. Many sent their tithes to him and laid their hands on the T.V. screen each week in hopes of absolution and healing while the evangelist became wealthy through their donations. These were genuine Christians who put their hope and trust in this person’s claims of miraculous powers which were non-existent.
What We Should Know
First we must understand that the healing power of the Lord through faith and prayer is real and sincere prayer does change things. Jesus did not call the needy forward to meet Him for help. He went to them and He did not boast or practice sorcery. He heard their cries and laid hands on them where ever they were and never asked for anything in return except their faith in Him based on what they have witnessed.. Take care in whom you place your trust and always ask…..”What would Jesus do?” The bottom line is…… Jesus is the only way.
