Hebrews 9:27-28 “27. Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, 28. So Christ was sacrificed once to take a way the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.”

While last week’s devotion was from Hebrews 7:27, the focus then was to gain an understanding that, in spite of the sins in our life, we are capable of communicating with other sinners because we have something in common and our victory over those sins stirs the interest of those who are seeking refuge and want the success we have found.

What We Should Know

The focus this week is on the fact that Christ sacrificed once to pay the penalty of all of our sins. Prior to His coming, the Jews offered sacrifices each year which were brought to the High Priest in payment for their sins. When Jesus came, He turned that process around as He offered Himself as a one-time sacrifice for all of our sins. Thus, when you die, your sins (with one exception) do not stand in your way to heaven. That one exception is denial of the Holy Spirit. We are sinners saved by grace and we should avoid allowing the imperfections of our life to stand in the way of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with our neighbors.
