Joshua 1:1-2 “1.After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2. ‘Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give them-to the Israelites.’”

Joshua had served with Moses for over 40 years and had stuck it out and served the Lord faithfully through good times and not-so-good times as well. Now Moses is dead and God appoints Joshua to step into Moses’ “sandals” and finally lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. Joshua had been there as a spy along with Caleb and 10 others so he saw the so-called giants who lived there. Was he afraid? Of course he was afraid. The unknown always comes with its fears and concerns; but God assured Joshua that He would protect them as long as they followed His commands.

What We Should Know

Also, as promised, God equipped them with all the resources needed to accomplish the mission and, of course, they succeeded. The promises and protection  given to Moses and to Joshua hold true for us today as well. As long as we stand by God’s Holy Word,  go and teach, preach and baptize, we are protected from the evils of this world. Let us be ready and willing as Joshua was so, when we are called to serve……GO.
