Mark 15:34 “And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?’ (which means ‘My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me??’).
We must remember, even though we cannot begin to comprehend, the two-part existence of Jesus as being fully God and fully human. For, as such He experienced all of the physical and emotional characteristics of a human as well as the wisdom and logic of God (the ultimate being). While Jesus hung painfully on the cross, the human side of Him cried out as any man would while the Spirit of God kept Him on track according to God’s plan.
What We Should Know
The Bible begins with the statement that we are created in God’s image. Jesus’ existence was the pattern as He was fully God and fully human. Our total existence is based on that pattern as we feel pain and suffering within our human condition while, at the same time, reason and adapt according to God’s will and our faith. It’s an emotional duel but necessary if we are to “carry our cross” with dignity and victory. We live with that eternal question…..What would Jesus do?
