John 19:27 “….and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.”

As He hung, dying on the cross, Jesus entrusted the care of His mother to John. Jesus displayed amazing trust and faith in John as a dedicated disciple so much so that He charged him to care for His mother. He spoke directly to Mary in vs. 26 declaring John to be her son and likewise to John in vs. 27 declaring Mary to be his mother. What an honor that was for John.

What We Should Know

John was the only disciple who was not executed. Instead, he was exiled to the Island of Patmos where he did support and care for Mary. While there, God dictated to John letters to the seven churches and then visions of heaven which were revealed in the book of Revelation.
