It Is Finished

John 19:28 “Later, knowing that everything now had been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said ‘I thirst.’”
As Jesus hung in agony on the cross, the last few prophesies from the Old Testament regarding the Suffering Servant were fulfilled. Everything He had come to earth to accomplish was completed. When this one last act of purchasing our redemption was complete, nothing more was needed and He surrendered Himself to death.

John 19:27 “….and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.”
As He hung, dying on the cross, Jesus entrusted the care of His mother to John. Jesus displayed amazing trust and faith in John as a dedicated disciple so much so that He charged him to care for His mother. He spoke directly to Mary in vs. 26 declaring John to be her son and likewise to John in vs. 27 declaring Mary to be his mother. What an honor that was for

Luke 23:42,43 “42. Then he said, ‘Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in paradise.’”
As Jesus hung on the cross with two other prisoners (one on either side of Him), one of the prisoners rebuked Him and challenged His lordship. The other asked that He remember him when He (Jesus) comes into His kingdom. Jesus assured him that TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.

Father Forgive Them

Luke 23:34 “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”
Jesus had been beaten and whipped and punched and mocked. He had a crown of thorns jammed onto His head. His robe was ripped off of His bleeding back and He had to carry His instrument of death (the cross). His wrists are tied to the cross and the nails are pounded into His forearms and the spike goes through His feet. The Roman centurions disrespectfully drop the cross into its place with a painful thud.

Luke 9:28-31 “28. About eight days after Jesus said this, He took Peter, John and James with Him and went onto a mountain to pray. 29. As He was praying, the appearance of His face changed, and His clothes became as bright as a flash of lightening. 30. Two men, Moses and Elijah appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus. 31. They spoke about His departure, which He was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem."

Can The Blind Lead The Blind?

Luke 6:39 “…. “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they both not fall into a pit?”
During the American Revolution, rogue preachers began holding camp meetings where all forms of theologies were being taught by uneducated preachers. As a consequence many people were misled into committing themselves and their money into non-denominational ministries with no solid biblical foundations. John Wesley, along with Francis Asbury and Thomas Coke established the first seminaries in t

Blessed Are The Poor

Luke 6:20 and 24 “20. Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 24. But woe to you who are rich, for you have already received your comfort.”
When I read the sermon on the mount, I am reminded of the churches we support in Cuba. They lack many of the essentials we depend on such as running water, dependable electricity, basic food items including staples such as bread and meat. They do not have air conditioning and they depend on camp stoves to cook th

I Cor 10:16,17 “16. Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread we break a participation in the body of Christ? 17. Because there is one loaf, we, who are many are one body, for we all share the one loaf.”
It is amazing the number of theological variations which exist among the many different Christian denominations in our country. The arrays of disagreements among Christian churches and the resulting

I Cor 12:18-20 “But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be. 19. If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20. As it is there are many parts, but one body.”
In this Scripture (vs. 12-27), Paul has compared the makeup of the Church to that of the human body and he makes it abundantly clear that each one of us has a unique gift to offer toward its health and growth. There was a man in the church where I grew up w

Luke 4:16 “He went to Nazareth, where He had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day He went into the Synagogue, as was His custom.”
As Jesus read the scroll from Isaiah, He declared His place as the one Isaiah foretold. As He continued, He shared the inabilities of the prophet Elijah to heal many in Israel of leprosy which angered the people to the point that they drove Him out of the Temple and to a cliff to shove Him to His death. But, verse 30 says “He walked right thro

John 2:11 “What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which He revealed His glory; and His disciples believed Him.”
In the wake of Epiphany, Jesus’s reign has just begun. He has performed the first of His miracles in Cana and the word of His lordship is beginning to travel as more and more become believers. He is one-on- one with the people; meeting them in the streets or where ever they gathered.

Acts 8:9-11 “9. Now for some time, a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, ‘This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.’ 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery.

Matthew 2:12 “And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.”
As a Christian counselor, one of my most profound statements to a client is simply….”follow your heart.” I have met many people who have put their trust in the judgement and opinions of others at the expense of their own standards and faith values resulting in catastrophe in their lives. I know of one individual who left his wife to attend a seminary be

Luke 2:49-50 “49. Why were you searching for Me, He asked. Didn’t you know I had to be in My Father’s house? 50. But they did not understand what He was saying to them.”
One of the great mysteries of life is that of God’s call. It begins as children when we are asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” From that point on, we begin to picture ourselves in different environments and doing different things with our lives without even a consideration of Christian servic
