John 1:40-4240. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (that is, the Christ). 42. And he brought him to Jesus.” Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas’ (which when translated, is Peter)’”

Andrew just happens to be with John when Jesus passes by and John points Him out to be the Messiah. Coincidence? I think not. Andrew was spiritually prepared to meet Jesus and his first inclination was to go tell his brother about Him. This is our introduction to the apostle, Peter who would become the cornerstone of Jesus’ Church.

What We Should Know

While Jesus’ baptism is recognized by the orthodox faiths as the Epiphany, we find another is described here as Andrew and Peter recognize Jesus as the Messiah. Epiphany is the realization by the Gentiles that Jesus is truly the Son of God, and we all experience it as we acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Savior in our own hearts. Peter had no idea what was in store for him when he first met Jesus and neither did Andrew and all Andrew had to do was introduce them. Who knows what God might have in store for someone we may witness to?  Don’t miss out on an opportunity to share your faith. You could change the world.
