Acts 1:4-5 “4. On one occasion, while He was eating with them, He gave them this command: ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. 5. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’”

Luke is continuing to write about the beginning of Jesus’ ministry with the command to “wait” as their baptism and the coming of the Holy Spirit was close at hand. It reminds me of my      military days and those times of “hurry up and wait.” Of course, they had lots of unanswered questions, but Jesus assured them that they would ‘receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them.’

What We Should Know

On the Day of Pentecost that power became known to all as the Holy Spirit came down as promised. That same Spirit lives within us today and we have the empowerment to witness and pass on that wonderful gift of salvation. We must not take it for granted. Cherish it and exercise it like a spiritual muscle so that it never weakens. We have the power. Let’s keep it going.
