Amos 6:6 “You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.”

Amos is challenging the complacency of the Israelites during these good times in their life. They are secure and wealthy; living the “high-life” and savoring the physical rewards. By the same token, he is warning them that their “dolce vita” way of life is only temporary.

What We Should Know

While we enjoy the fruits of our labor, our air-conditioned homes, our cars, our swimming pools, our entertainment centers, etc., there are those all around us who suffer. Jesus told us we would always have the poor and we do, but what are we doing about it? The answer……”not nearly enough.” The government is obviously not the answer as most programs which were designed to help the poor are being cut. We as a church must work together as the family we are by tithing, giving and volunteering to bring Matthew 25 to life. Jesus said “As you have done it to the least of these, you have done it to Me.” Let’s not be complacent and reach out to our neighbors in love and concern.
