Matt 6:16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.”

Fasting is an extreme form of sacrificial giving, a ritual by which we can be drawn to a closer relationship with the Lord. By denying ourselves of personal gratification (ie. food) we can focus more intently on our faith as we are reminded of the sacrifice Jesus made for us through his own suffering.

What We Should Know

Fasting should be approached with special considerations regarding one’s physical condition and not extended beyond a time which is physically safe. Properly practiced, fasting and prayer can be life-changing as you are drawn more closer to the Lord.
